Ministry to Adopted Children by Adoptive Parents

A PERSPECTIVE

The following guidelines were developed to help you minister to the spiritual needs of your adopted child. They are given as guidelines to help you minister protection to your child from the things that may have been passed down to your child generationally from the bloodlines of the birth mother or birth father. These guidelines are not meant as a formula, but rather as a suggested path to follow. We are moving here in an arena where all the principles are not yet clearly known, therefore, we must move in faith. The key is for the legal parents to be sensitive to how the Holy Spirit is leading you in this process for your child and to follow that leading. Having dedicated this process to the Lord, be very sensitive to how God speaks to you in the midst of the process. Then follow His leading boldly.

THE PREPARATION OF YOUR HOME

In preparation for this ministry to your child, begin with your own home and the spiritual realm that it is. If you have not done so, dedicate your home and your property to the Lord. Go from room to room and dedicate each room to the Lord. A simple statement of command can be said in each room such as:

“I dedicate this room to the Lord Jesus Christ, in the name     of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. If there are any     spirits belonging to the Evil One here, I now bind you and     break your power in the name of Jesus. You now have no     right here and I command you to leave. You are to go to     the feet of Jesus and I forbid you from ever returning to     this house or sending any other spirits back to this place.”

The words used are not as important as your intent. Speak authoritatively in the name and power of Jesus. You can also anoint doorways and windows with oil with the sign of the cross.

This process of “cleaning out the house” is especially important when you have purchased a previously owned home or when moving into an apartment.

PREPARATION OF YOURSELVES AS PARENTS

Your own spiritual preparation is important because you do not want anything within yourself to be used by the Enemy to hinder the work of the Spirit. Spend time with the Lord in preparation for this ministry to your child. You may be led to commit to a time of fasting in preparation for this ministry. Ask the Lord to reveal anything within you that could hinder the work of the Holy Spirit on behalf of your child. Repent and receive forgiveness for all known or revealed areas of sin.

The actual setting and time of the ministry can be decided by you depending on the age of the child. Babies and smaller children can best be ministered to while they sleep. Older children can be ministered to while awake. You may want to invite friends and other family members to join with you for prayer support. All persons present must be willing to commit to their own spiritual preparation for the ministry time.

THE MINISTRY TO YOUR ADOPTED CHILD

1. Begin By Invoking God’s Presence In This Ministry To Your Child

Begin with a prayer affirming God’s goodness and blessing in giving you this child. Affirm God’s love and care for the child. If you have not yet dedicated this child to the Lord, do so in a simple declaration of dedication. Acknowledge your acceptance of the responsibility to be the child’s parents. This affirms your spiritual authority over the child. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in this ministry to the child. Trust Him to lead you through this ministry. If you sense the Holy Spirit leading you to pray something or do something in the process of this ministry, do it! You have asked the Holy Spirit to lead, so follow Him. This information is just a guideline for you. The Holy Spirit is in charge.

2. Establish Protection For This Ministry and The Child

The legal father of the child should lead this service. If the father is not available, the legal mother should lead it. They are the ones who have the most spiritual authority over the child. Satan and his angels recognize authority. Ask the Holy Spirt to send ministering angels to surround you and the child. Bind any evil spirits within the child and around the child and isolate them. Say something like:

“In the name of Jesus I now bind any evil spirits both     within and around this child. I cut you off in the name of     Jesus and forbid you from receiving any help, power, or     information from any other spirit. You are not to interfere     with what is taking place here. I also place protection over     this child and any person here. I forbid you from seeking     revenge against any of us, any person we know, or     anything that belongs to us or that touches us in any way.”

3. Ask The Holy Spirit To Come and Minister In Power To The Child

Do this through prayer, inviting the Holy Spirit to come in power to minister this healing to your child.

4. Speak Blessing and Peace On The Child

At this point you may want to anoint the child with oil or holy water. Holy water is simply water that you ask God to bless and anoint. Some also add salt to the water. Water and salt are required for life to be sustained, so this becomes a part of the symbolic nature of holy water. Anointing is done by making the sign of the cross on the child’s head or body with the oil and/or water. This is an acknowledging symbol of God’s power and healing presence. This may not be a part of your religious tradition, but Satan and his angels understand its power.

5. Acknowledge Your Spiritual Authority Over The Child

The Enemy understands spiritual authority. As the legal parents you have been given spiritual authority over your child by God. You need to publicly acknowledge your authority so that all principalities and powers in the universe will hear it. Both parents should declare their individual authority. Say something like:

“I am the legal Father/Mother of (child’s name). I have     been given this legal right by the State of _______, but     more importantly I have been given this legal right by God.     I have accepted the spiritual responsibility for and the     spiritual authority over (child’s name) which has also been     given to me by God. I hereby affirm my spiritual and legal     authority over (child’s name) and declare to Satan and all     his demons that if you want to get to this child you have to     come through me.”

6. Repenting For The Biological Parents

The legal father now individually stands in the place of the birth father and repents for the sins of the birth father and the sins of the birth father’s generations. Be specific if you have specific knowledge. If you have no specific knowledge, repent in general terms for his sins that may have harmed the child or opened the child up to demonic presence. Ask God’s forgiveness for these sins and their affect on the child. After the legal father has done this, the legal mother should do the same thing for the birth mother.

7. Repenting For Yourself As The Legal Parent

As the legal parents, repent for any known areas of sin in your own life. Pay special attention to areas related to the adoption process you went through to get your child and to any difficulties you have had since receiving the child. Sometimes we carry anger or resentment toward persons, agencies, systems, or authorities that caused us difficulties during or since the adoption. Also examine any feelings toward the child that are in any way negative or resentful on your part. Sometimes the child God gives us is different in some way from the child we expected to receive. The truth is, sometimes reality is not what we imagined it would be. Do not judge yourself for this. This is a natural process for some adoptive parents and you can work through it to see that you are exactly the parents that God wanted this child to have. Simply repent of these feelings toward others, your child, or yourself.

8. Break The Power Of Generational Spirits, Curses, and Dedications Through The Birth Parent’s Bloodlines

Now, break the power and right of any generational spirits that may have been passed down to your child through the bloodline of the birth father or birth mother, in Jesus’ name. Remember, you speak from a position of authority. Act in and with your authority. Do not be tentative or timid. Be Bold. You are reclaiming your child from the Enemy’s grip! A typical declaration could be:

“In the name, power, and authority of Jesus Christ, I now     break the power and cancel the right of any generational     spirit passed to (child’s name) through his/her birth
father’s or birth mother’s bloodline all the way back to the     first generation. You now have no right to him/her because     he/she now belongs to Jesus. In the name of Jesus, I now     bind you and command you to leave (child’s name) and go     to the feet of Jesus, never to return. In the name of Jesus,     I also break the power of any curses, vows, dedications,     blood covenants, or anything else the Enemy has sent to     (child’s name) through his/her birth parents. I ask Jesus to     wash his/her bloodlines clean with His precious blood all     the way back to the first generation. And I ask Jesus to put     the Cross and the Empty Tomb between (child’s name) and     his/her birth parent’s bloodlines. Amen.

9. Break The Power Of Generational Spirits, Curses, and Dedications Through Legal Parent’s Bloodlines

The legal father and mother should now individually repeat this same prayer for their own bloodlines and anything that may have transferred from them to their child of which they may not even be aware. Remember that we are moving here in a realm of experience that does not yet have clear definitions. There is a possibility that these things only transfer through biological bloodlines. If we are in error here, let us be in error on the side of caution.

“In the name, power, and authority of Jesus Christ I now     break the power and cancel the right of any generational     spirit passed to (child’s name) through my bloodline all the     way back to my first generation. You now have no right to     him/her because he/she now belongs to Jesus. In the name     of Jesus, I now bind you and command you to leave (child’s     name) and go to the feet of Jesus, never to return. In the     name of Jesus, I also break the power of any curses, vows,     dedications, blood covenants, or anything else the Enemy     has sent to (child’s name) from me. I ask Jesus to wash my     bloodline clean with His precious blood all the way back to     my first generation. And I ask Jesus to put the Cross and     the Empty Tomb between (child’s name) and my bloodline.     Amen.

10. Sealing Of Experience By The Holy Spirit

Conclude this ministry to the child by asking the Holy Spirit to seal what has taken place. Pronounce freedom and release for the child from the things the Enemy had sent to them. Offer prayers of thanksgiving, blessing, and praise over the child. Thank God for His protection.

11. Additional Comments

Pray protection for your child daily. As the legal parents, you spiritually have the legal authority and position to do this. Face the Enemy on behalf of your child and remind him of your authority. The Father must continually remind the Enemy and all his angels that if he wants to get to your family, he must first come through you. In the absence of a Father in the family, the Mother stands in the place of spiritual authority over the child and can claim the same stance.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes . . . . so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” Eph 6: 10-13 NIV
