A Ministry Model

When ministering to others, it is helpful to follow a sequence of steps. Though it is sometimes advisable to follow a different ordering, the following sequence seems to be the most useful with frequent repetition of steps three through five. That is, in any given ministry session should involve several interviews (step 3), each of which is followed by the development and implementation of another strategy (step 4) and more authoritative (step 5) before the session is finally concluded. The following ministry model is taken from my book, Deep Wounds, Deep Healing.
Step 1: In prayer, invite the Holy Spirit to come in a special way. The Holy Spirit is always with us and in us. Indeed, one important part of our pre-ministry praying should be to ask for a new infilling of the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 5:18 commands us to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. But in addition to his constant presence, we see from Luke 17 that he comes in particular ways for special purposes. We need him to provide a number of specific things in each ministry event. Among them are:
a) to lead and reveal his ministry during the session;
b) to empower whatever happens;
c) to give us the right thoughts, ideas and words;
d) to provide protection from the Enemy for everyone involved, plus all of our families, friends and personal affairs both during and after the ministry session.
This initial prayer time should be followed by continual silent prayer by all involved during the remainder of the session. It is good for them to keep their eyes open when they pray, to avoid missing the many clues that come from observing what is happening with the person being prayed for.
Step 2: Bless the person. Bless the person with such things as peace, freedom from fear of embarrassment, openness to whatever God wants to do, and whatever else the Holy Spirit leads you to say. Often, the person receiving ministry is extremely ill at ease, sometimes to the point of shaking, fearful-not knowing quite what to expect. Blessing the person with peace usually takes care of such things. If not, you may want to spend more time in prayer, or in sharing your own or another’s experience, to bring trust and calmness. High emotion usually blocks the working of the Holy Spirit. Bringing in calmness and trust is, therefore, an important part of these first two steps.
Step 3: Interview the person. During the interview, we are looking for information that will aid in the healing process. It is helpful to remember that God seems to prefer to lead us through ordinary means rather than extraordinary means whenever possible. An ordinary interview, then, is usually quite important in the process of bringing a person to healing. While we ask questions, however, we need to be constantly listening for information from the Holy Spirit as well. A major key to successful ministry, then, is to listen to God as we listen to the person.
As we start the interview, we should expect God to honor our request that he lead. His leading will usually be through guided “hunches.” Some people seem to think that it is important to distinguish which information comes from oneself and which comes directly from God. I think such attempts are both unnecessary and potentially distracting. If we ask God to lead and he does lead, what difference does it make where he pulls the information from? Information that God pulls from our experience is just as much from God as that which he gives us directly. He freely mixes both types as we minister.
There are several possible starting points as we seek to discover what to deal with first. The most obvious starting point is to check out the problem that brought the person to you. This will usually be some surface-level difficulty, but it has roots at a deeper level in the person’s life. As we ask questions concerning that issue, it is usually important to look for indications of a deeper problem.

I Have Returned to the God of My Father

Every time I listen to this old song my heart leaps only in my case it is “I have returned to the God of my Grandfather”.  As I listened to this song my heart’s cry was to once again to return to Israel.  Three and a half years ago I visited Israel for my first time.  It was exciting and my expectations were great.  I was returning to my spiritual roots. As some of you know, during the trip I became very ill.   God saw that I returned to the US before I was hospitalized.  Death’s door was certainly open to me but Father God saw to close it tightly and return me to life.    Even though the trip was great, my memories have been of getting ill and the trauma I went through after returning home.  The special ness of the trip was stolen from me through bad health after returning.

I believe the God we serve is a God of restoration.  He not only wants to restore our wounded hearts back to him, he wants to restore geographical locations, dates, names of people, etc., every circumstance that has caused wounded ness to his children.  In Dec. I began to pray that God would redeem the trip to Israel.  I prayed the experiences that I went through after returning from the first trip – would be replaced with new, healing and healthy experiences.  Even though God miraculously brought me through – I wanted to have healthy memories to redeem the unhealthy.

One of my prayers I was praying regarding my trip was to really hear the Lord regarding some direction in my life and some decisions I need to make.  The anticipation grew as the days got closer for my trip.  I must say my expectations of meeting God and hearing his direction was highly exalted.  I went to Jerusalem a few days before I was to meet up with the ministry team I would be traveling with so I would have a few extra days of quiet time with the Lord.  I knew how I wanted him to speak and what I wanted him to say.

Where was he going to speak to me?   Would it be at the Western Wall or maybe when I spent the afternoon sitting in the Garden Tomb?  Since I have been through a Gethsemane experience, maybe he would speak to me in the Garden of Gethsemane?  Would it be when I first arrived in Israel or later during my trip?  One of my favorite places to go is the Sea of Galilee.  Maybe this is where I would hear his still small voice speak direction to my heart as I traveled across the still Sea of Galilee in the Jesus boat.

The trip was great but as the days got closer to returning home – I still hadn’t heard Father speak to me the way I was expecting.  One afternoon I was complaining and asking him why he hadn’t spoken to me.  All of a sudden I heard a spontaneous flow of God’s thoughts to my heart say, “Do I not speak with you each day?  You recognize my voice, have I been silent or have I not answered in the way you expected?”  Immediately I realized how he was correcting me.  Why did I think I had to travel to Israel to seek him for direction when I dialog with him daily?  I quickly repented and asked Father to forgive me for not hearing what he had been saying all along to me.  Could it be he was speaking to me but I didn’t want to hear what he was saying? –  So did  going to Israel to hear him became an idol of my heart – even to the place that I filtered his voice through the idol of what I wanted his direction to be?   Ouch!  I was gently, lovingly corrected and quickly agreed to spend the rest of the time in Israel just enjoying myself, listening to his heart and resting in the fact that he holds not only my life in his hands but every desire of my heart also.  I stopped looking and listening for his voice to knock me off my feet and started to just rest in him and be content with what he was saying to me.  I spent time getting to know my spiritual roots, walking in the footsteps of Jesus and getting to know his people better.  The pressure to hear with off of me and I could just delight in him during the rest of my trip.

As we approached Mount Carmel – the ministry team was excited to go to the top and pray.  I had been there before and I was struggling with going again.  I was tired from long hours of the trip and ministry and I thought I would just stay back and rest.  Then, I was asked to join the team and pray for the United States and repent on behalf of our sinful nature.  In our team there were 19 of us from six different countries and each of us prayed on behalf of our country.  So I climbed out of the bus and went up to Mt Carmel and prayed and repented.

Protocol for Leading a Deep-Level Healing & Deliverance Session

Read through the Personal History Questionnaire filled out by the person receiving ministry (client).

Make a list of ages and events that need deep-level healing.

Record generational issues to be dealt with in session.

Keep a “hit-list” of possible demons (see “Function Names of Demons” sheet) as you look through the Questionnaire and during the deep-level healing portion of the session.

Show the client the Surface-Deep-Level Healing Chart:

Explain that Surface-Level = physical; Deep-Level = soul, spirit, will, mind, emotions.

Physical healing often happens as a byproduct of deep-level healing.

Explain the importance of getting healing for the three relationships.

Relationship with God — correcting spiritual damage

Relationship with Self — correcting psychological damage

Relationship with Others – correcting psychological damage

Demonization may affect people at any level

Demons are like rats, they are attracted to garbage and come in packs.

But they can only inhabit a person if they have rights there.

If we have spiritual or emotional garbage (sin, emotional wounds, curses) inside, the rats may have a right to be there.

Ministry to Adopted Children by Adoptive Parents

A PERSPECTIVE

The following guidelines were developed to help you minister to the spiritual needs of your adopted child. They are given as guidelines to help you minister protection to your child from the things that may have been passed down to your child generationally from the bloodlines of the birth mother or birth father. These guidelines are not meant as a formula, but rather as a suggested path to follow. We are moving here in an arena where all the principles are not yet clearly known, therefore, we must move in faith. The key is for the legal parents to be sensitive to how the Holy Spirit is leading you in this process for your child and to follow that leading. Having dedicated this process to the Lord, be very sensitive to how God speaks to you in the midst of the process. Then follow His leading boldly.

THE PREPARATION OF YOUR HOME

In preparation for this ministry to your child, begin with your own home and the spiritual realm that it is. If you have not done so, dedicate your home and your property to the Lord. Go from room to room and dedicate each room to the Lord. A simple statement of command can be said in each room such as:

“I dedicate this room to the Lord Jesus Christ, in the name     of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. If there are any     spirits belonging to the Evil One here, I now bind you and     break your power in the name of Jesus. You now have no     right here and I command you to leave. You are to go to     the feet of Jesus and I forbid you from ever returning to     this house or sending any other spirits back to this place.”

The words used are not as important as your intent. Speak authoritatively in the name and power of Jesus. You can also anoint doorways and windows with oil with the sign of the cross.

This process of “cleaning out the house” is especially important when you have purchased a previously owned home or when moving into an apartment.

PREPARATION OF YOURSELVES AS PARENTS

Your own spiritual preparation is important because you do not want anything within yourself to be used by the Enemy to hinder the work of the Spirit. Spend time with the Lord in preparation for this ministry to your child. You may be led to commit to a time of fasting in preparation for this ministry. Ask the Lord to reveal anything within you that could hinder the work of the Holy Spirit on behalf of your child. Repent and receive forgiveness for all known or revealed areas of sin.

The actual setting and time of the ministry can be decided by you depending on the age of the child. Babies and smaller children can best be ministered to while they sleep. Older children can be ministered to while awake. You may want to invite friends and other family members to join with you for prayer support. All persons present must be willing to commit to their own spiritual preparation for the ministry time.
